Was I weird at 19?

When I was 19 and in Viet Nam, I frequented the base tailor for a series of chevron additions. Somehow the Viet Namese lady tailor took a liking to me. She set me up with her daughter. She was right up front in 1967. She wanted to save her daughter from what she feared for the future. She was looking to find her an American husband. Well, we had a number of dates together, mainly at restaurants but also visiting temples and other landmark sites. The dates always chaperoned by her mother. I was fairly new to dating. Never did in high school. But had statesside with but 2 girls. Funny thing I fell in love with this girl. We kissed but call it kissing like a good Catholic girl… her mother was watching. I got ribbed by guys in my unit. Yeah, I went to bars, but never messed with the girls. I got called a homo because I didn’t go to the rooms with the girls. And razed for as they said, not getting rid of the old lady and shagging the girl. I went to the CO to get consent to marry. But,
But the CO wouldn’t give permission. Here I am 60 and look back at that as one of two loves in my life. I wrote to her very briefly after returning statesside. But lost touch following the January 1968 TET Offensive. I was 26 when I first shagged a girl. Not that I didn’t have opportunities but looking for something more than quick flings. and far more often it was quick flings, mostly with married women that presented opportunities. And the same to this time.
Oh yes she was beautiful. She was half French, half Viet Namese and always dressed in those beautiful silk dresses. I add that it kept me going there. The duty and outlook was so dismal.
Heck no one has to tell me, I know I’, weird at 60. I meet women in a very strange way. No dating phoniness. I like finding single women that need yard work, home and auto repairs. I confuse them doing those things and rewarded with a home cooked meal and some conversation. I am very often asked just what I’m up to. And I do date and everything else any normal man might. No, I never married and at this age not likely. When a person marries, they have to take the complete package. At my age that’s adult children and grandchildren. I know my limits. Just a wife would be a big change. Why didn’t I marry? Only one other interested me enough. And that ruined when I went to work for Northrop in Saudi Arabia. A great career opportunity as labratory manager in charge over Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Just no other women I ever got that close to. Besides, all the years of being single no woman could put up with me, nor I surrender my independence.
I left out an important fact. The girl’s mother was going to set her daughter up with a tailoring bussiness and laundry in the US. So that would have been a considerable opportunity for me. I being with9out aqny family for years before enlisting. I supported and lived on my own during school. I rented rooms from parents of classmates. My mother had remarried and her husband kicked me out two weeks later. I was influenced by many people and grateful, just not to parents. My father was fine but resided in a VA Hospital, resulting from his WWII wounds. I am endebted to him for some financial support. All he could really offer.
My dog though is a real **** magnet. But he attracts women and girls too young for me.
